Solar panel manufacturers by country: 96 module makers in 31 countries (2026)
By The PV Index · Published 26 October 2026 · Last updated 26 October 2026. Counts as of 2026-10-27.
The PV Index lists 96 solar panel (PV module) manufacturers headquartered in 31 countries. China has the most by far (25), followed by India (7), Germany (6), Japan (6) and the United States (6). By region, 47 are based in Asia, 19 in the Middle East and Africa, 15 in Europe and 9 in North America. In output terms China dominates even more: the IEA found that China's share of every manufacturing stage of solar panels, from polysilicon to modules, exceeds 80% (IEA, Solar PV Global Supply Chains).
This guide groups every module maker in our directory by the country where it is headquartered, then looks at the question buyers actually care about: where the panels are made. It also covers US-made and European-made options, the module technologies each maker offers, and a short checklist before you choose a brand. Each name links to its listing page with the official website and a short profile written from the company's own materials.
Solar panel manufacturers by country
China accounts for 25 of the 96 makers (26%) in our list. 17 countries have two or more module makers, and 14 more have exactly one, often a national "first solar panel factory". Country names link to our country pages, which also list local installers, distributors, events and training.
A company count is not a measure of production. A single large Chinese maker ships more panels in a year than all the makers of many smaller countries combined, and several countries on this list have one factory of a few tens of megawatts. Read the table as "where to find a manufacturer", not as market share.
By region
| Region | Makers | Share of the list |
|---|---|---|
| Asia | 47 | 49% |
| Middle East & Africa | 19 | 20% |
| Europe | 15 | 16% |
| North America | 9 | 9% |
| Latin America | 5 | 5% |
| Oceania | 1 | 1% |
Headquarters is not the same as where panels are made
Many brands make panels outside their home country, and some no longer make their own panels at all. That matters for import tariffs, local-content rules, delivery times and warranty service. Examples from the directory:
- Panasonic (EverVolt Solar) (Japan): ended its own cell and module production in 2022; EverVolt panels are made by OEM partners.
- SolarWatt (Germany): ended in-house production in Dresden in 2024; its designs are now built by audited partner factories.
- AXITEC Energy (Germany): a German brand that engineers and quality-checks modules made at audited partner factories.
- Luxen Solar (China): founded in Spain, with manufacturing and R&D in Nantong, China, and operational headquarters in Vienna.
- FuturaSun (Italy): headquartered in Padua, with production in China and a new factory in Cittadella, Italy.
- Canadian Solar (Canada): headquartered in Ontario, with most capacity in China and Southeast Asia plus a plant in Texas.
The listing pages note factory locations where the company publishes them. When local content matters, ask the supplier for the factory address on the module label and the certificate, not just the brand's head-office country.
China
25 Chinese module makers are listed, including the best-known global brands LONGi Green Energy, JinkoSolar, Trina Solar, JA Solar, Tongwei Solar and Astronergy, plus Aiko Solar, Bluesun Solar, DAS Solar, DMEGC Solar, EGing PV, GCL System Integration, Haitai Solar, Hershey-Power, HT-SAAE (HT Solar), Huasun Energy, Jetion Solar, Jinergy, Jolywood, Luxen Solar, Risen Energy, Seraphim Energy Group, Sunpal Power, Yingli Solar and ZNShine Solar. Most are vertically integrated (wafers, cells and modules in one group) and have moved their main lines to n-type TOPCon, with Huasun Energy, Jinergy, Risen Energy and Tongwei Solar also producing heterojunction and Aiko Solar and LONGi Green Energy pushing back-contact designs. Several run factories abroad, in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the United States, partly to serve markets with tariffs on Chinese imports. State-owned makers include HT-SAAE (HT Solar) and Jinergy.
India and the rest of Asia
India has 7 listed makers: Adani Solar, Emmvee, Goldi Solar, RenewSys, Tata Power Solar, Vikram Solar and Waaree Energies. Indian makers have grown fast behind domestic-content rules and are adding their own cell lines; a few are also building plants in the United States. Elsewhere in Asia the list covers Japan (6), Singapore (2), South Korea (2), Vietnam (2), Bangladesh (1), Pakistan (1) and Thailand (1), including Choshu Industry, Kyocera, Leapton Energy, Panasonic (EverVolt Solar), Sharp Energy Solutions and TOYO Co., Ltd. in Japan, Hanwha Qcells and HD Hyundai Energy Solutions in South Korea and Maxeon Solar Technologies and REC Group in Singapore.
United States and US-made panels
6 makers are headquartered in the United States: Crossroads Solar, First Solar, Illuminate USA, Mission Solar Energy, SEG Solar and T1 Energy. Another 5 makers headquartered elsewhere tag US manufacturing in their listing: Elin Enerji, Hanwha Qcells, Heliene, Silfab Solar and TOYO Co., Ltd. If you need US-made modules (for example for domestic-content incentives), check which product lines come from the US plants, because most of these companies also sell imported panels.
Canada is home to Canadian Solar, Heliene and Silfab Solar; Latin America has 5 makers (Balfar Solar, BYD Energy do Brasil, Sengi Solar, Solarever and Solartec).
Europe and European-made panels
The directory lists 15 European module makers across 6 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Slovenia, Spain). They are mostly smaller, premium or specialist producers: Heckert Solar, Luxor Solar, SolarWatt, Solitek and Sonnenstromfabrik (CS Wismar) make glass-glass modules, FuturaSun, Sonnenstromfabrik (CS Wismar) and Trienergia make back-contact panels, and 3Sun (Enel) and RECOM Technologies produce heterojunction modules in Europe. Some European brands now design in Europe and manufacture in Asia (see the section above), so "European brand" and "made in Europe" are not the same thing.
Middle East and Africa
19 module makers are based in 10 countries of the Middle East and Africa. Turkey has 4 makers (CW Enerji, Elin Enerji, Kalyon PV and Smart Solar Technologies). In the Gulf and Levant: Desert Technologies, Dusol Industries, Maysun Solar, Philadelphia Solar, Sheida Solar and Solar One. North Africa has a cluster of assembly plants serving local tenders and exports: Condor Electronics, ENIE, Ifrisol, Milltech, NRSOL, Soften and Zergoun Green Energy. South of the Sahara: ARTsolar and Auxano Solar. Many of these factories are tens to a few hundred megawatts a year, assemble modules from imported cells, and often also run EPC or project businesses. That can make them good partners for projects with local-content requirements.
Module technologies by maker
Technologies are taken from each listing's tags, so a maker can appear in several rows. TOPCon is now the default for new high-efficiency lines; older PERC production is being phased out at most large makers.
| Technology | Makers | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| TOPCon (n-type) | 42 | the mainstream high-efficiency cell design today |
| Bifacial | 26 | panels that also collect light reflected onto the back; common on ground-mounted plants |
| Heterojunction (HJT) | 8 | n-type cells with thin amorphous-silicon layers; high efficiency and low temperature loss |
| Back-contact (IBC, ABC, HPBC) | 7 | all contacts on the rear, so the front has no busbars; premium efficiency and looks |
| Glass-glass | 7 | glass on both sides instead of a plastic backsheet; often sold with longer warranties |
| Thin-film (CdTe) | 1 | non-silicon technology used mainly for utility-scale plants |
Heterojunction makers: 3Sun (Enel), Canadian Solar, Huasun Energy, Jinergy, REC Group, RECOM Technologies, Risen Energy and Tongwei Solar. Back-contact: Aiko Solar, FuturaSun, LONGi Green Energy, Maxeon Solar Technologies, Silfab Solar, Sonnenstromfabrik (CS Wismar) and Trienergia. Thin-film: First Solar. For panels built for off-grid kits and solar home systems, see Auxano Solar, Dusol Industries, Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy, Solartec and Sunpal Power.
How to choose a solar panel manufacturer
- Check the factory, not just the brand. Ask where the specific module model is made, and get it in writing if tariffs or local-content rules apply.
- Ask for certificates. At minimum IEC 61215 (design) and IEC 61730 (safety) from a recognised lab, plus local listings such as UL 61730 in the US or national approval lists where your utility requires them.
- Read the warranty and who backs it. Compare product and performance warranty years, the yearly degradation figure, and which legal entity in your country handles claims. Brands that changed owners or stopped production (see above) deserve an extra question.
- Match technology to the site. Bifacial glass-glass panels suit ground-mounted and carport systems; all-black or back-contact panels are popular for visible home roofs; check weight and frame limits on old roofs.
- Look for local stock and support. A brand with a distributor in your country is easier to source and to claim on. Our Developers & EPC category includes distributors and installers by country.
- Be careful with "Tier 1". Tier lists rank how bankable a maker is for project finance, not the quality of a given panel. Only a few listings carry the label, so we do not use it to rank makers here.
