By The PV Index · Published 24 October 2026 · Last updated 24 October 2026. Counts as of 2026-10-27.

The PV Index lists 51 solar inverter manufacturers from 13 countries. China has the most (23), followed by the United States (9), Italy (4) and Spain (4); 14 are based in Europe and 9 in North America. By shipments, Wood Mackenzie ranks Huawei and Sungrow as the two largest inverter makers in the world: together they held 55% of the global market in 2024.

Below you will find every inverter maker in the directory grouped by country and by inverter type, the current global leaders, the ownership changes worth knowing about, and a short checklist for choosing a brand. Each name links to its listing page with the official website, location and product focus.

The largest inverter manufacturers in the world

Energy research firm Wood Mackenzie reported that global PV inverter shipments grew 10% to 589 GWac in 2024. Huawei shipped 176 GWac and Sungrow 148 GWac, ranking first and second for the tenth year in a row. Ginlong Solis was third and Growatt fourth, and nine of the top ten vendors are headquartered in China (Wood Mackenzie, July 2025).

Shipments are not the only measure. Wood Mackenzie's separate manufacturer ranking for the first half of 2025 scores 23 vendors from seven countries, which together account for about 90% of 2024 shipments, on eight weighted criteria: ESG (30%), after-sales service, R&D and supply-chain stability (15% each), capacity use (10%), and certifications, finances and manufacturing experience (5% each). The top ten hold 71% of the market (Wood Mackenzie, January 2026):

8 of these ten have a listing in The PV Index, and SolarEdge and Aiswei / Solplanet are not listed yet. Inverter makers outside the top ten are often stronger in one segment or region, for example off-grid systems, microinverters or utility-scale central inverters, so the rest of this guide sorts them that way.

Solar inverter manufacturers by country

China accounts for 23 of the 51 makers (45%). Next come the United States (9), Italy (4) and Spain (4), and 9 more countries have one or two makers each. Country names link to our country pages, which also list local module makers, installers, events and courses.

Europe still has a strong inverter base: 14 makers across 7 countries (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland), led by long-established firms such as SMA Solar Technology in Germany and Fronius in Austria, and Spain's utility-scale central inverter makers Gamesa Electric, Ingeteam and Power Electronics. In the United States, 4 of the 9 listed makers build microinverters or other module-level electronics (APsystems, Enphase Energy, NEP (Northern Electric Power) and Tigo Energy).

Inverter manufacturers by type

Most brands make more than one kind of inverter, so a maker can appear in several rows. The types are taken from each listing's product tags.

TypeMakersWhat it is
String inverters28one inverter per group of panel strings; the default for homes, commercial roofs and many utility plants
Hybrid inverters24string inverters with a battery port, for solar plus storage and backup
Central inverters10large units (hundreds of kW to several MW) for utility-scale plants
Microinverters and MLPE8module-level power electronics: microinverters, optimizers and rapid-shutdown devices

String inverters (28 makers)

The largest group. Residential and commercial specialists include Afore New Energy, Fox ESS, Fronius, Ginlong Solis, GoodWe, Growatt, Huawei FusionSolar and SAJ Electric. Makers that also tag their string inverters for utility-scale use include Chint Power Systems (CPS), FIMER, Ginlong Solis, Hopewind, Huawei FusionSolar, Ingeteam, INVT Solar and KACO new energy.

Hybrid inverters (24 makers)

Hybrid inverters connect panels, a battery and the grid in one box, which is why many brands now lead with them. In the directory: Afore New Energy, Darfon Electronics, Deye, EG4 Electronics, Fox ESS, Fronius, GoodWe, Growatt, INVT Solar, Livoltek, Megarevo, Much Solar, Must Energy, Riello Solartech, SAJ Electric, Salicru, Schneider Electric, Senergy Technology, Sofar Solar, Sol-Ark, SolaX Power, Statcon Energiaa, Sunways and ZCS Azzurro (Zucchetti).

Central inverters for utility-scale plants (10 makers)

Enertronica Santerno, FIMER, Gamesa Electric, Ingeteam, Kehua, Power Electronics, Sineng Electric, SMA Solar Technology, Sungrow and TMEIC. In total 19 makers tag at least one product for utility-scale projects.

Microinverters and module-level power electronics (8 makers)

APsystems, Darfon Electronics, Deye, Enphase Energy, Hoymiles, Huawei FusionSolar, NEP (Northern Electric Power) and Tigo Energy. Of these, 6 makers build microinverters as such (APsystems, Darfon Electronics, Deye, Enphase Energy, Hoymiles and NEP (Northern Electric Power)); the others make optimizers or rapid-shutdown devices. Microinverters and optimizers are common where module-level rapid shutdown is required, on shaded or complex roofs, and in plug-in balcony systems.

Off-grid inverters and inverter-chargers (7 makers)

EG4 Electronics, Growatt, Must Energy, Schneider Electric, Statcon Energiaa, Studer Innotec and Victron Energy. These are built around a battery and are the usual choice for remote sites, backup power and boats.

Ownership changes to check

An inverter warranty is only as good as the company behind it, so ownership matters. Several listed brands have changed hands in recent years (details on each listing page):

None of this is a reason to avoid a brand, but if you are buying a long warranty, check which legal entity now issues it and who handles service in your country.

How to choose an inverter manufacturer

  1. Match the type to the job. Use the table above: string or hybrid for most homes and businesses, central or large string inverters for utility plants, microinverters or optimizers for shaded or complex roofs, inverter-chargers for off-grid systems.
  2. Check grid approval in your country. The inverter must be certified for the local grid code and safety standard, for example IEC 62109 safety, UL 1741 in the United States or VDE-AR-N 4105 for low-voltage connection in Germany. Ask the distributor for the certificate, not just a datasheet.
  3. Look for local service. A replacement unit in days matters more than a small price gap. Ask who stocks spares and does warranty swaps in your country.
  4. Plan for batteries. If storage is likely later, choose a hybrid model or confirm which battery brands the inverter supports. Our Storage & O&M category lists battery makers and integrators.
  5. Read the warranty terms. Wood Mackenzie notes that all ten of its top-ranked makers now offer warranty extensions of 20 years or more. Compare standard and extended lengths, what is covered (parts, labour, shipping) and the conditions for registration.
  6. Check monitoring. Most brands run their own app or cloud portal; installers managing many sites should check fleet tools and data export. See Software for independent monitoring platforms.
  7. Ask about cybersecurity and remote control. Inverters are connected devices, and some markets now set rules for remote access and data. Ask where data is stored and who can change settings remotely.
