Solar project developers and IPPs by country: 270 companies in 59 countries (2026)
By The PV Index · Published 30 October 2026 · Last updated 30 October 2026. Counts as of 2026-11-02.
The PV Index lists 270 developers in 59 countries. The United States has the most (27), followed by India (18), France (16) and Thailand (15). By region: Europe (80), Asia (75), Middle East & Africa (50), Latin America (31), North America (30), Global (3) and Oceania (1).
A solar developer finds the site, secures land, permits and a grid connection, signs a buyer for the power and arranges the funding. An independent power producer (IPP) then owns and runs the plant and sells its electricity, usually under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Most companies on this page do both, and many also build their own plants. This guide lists every developer and IPP in the directory by region and country, then by segment.

Solar developers and IPPs by segment
Segments come from each listing's tags; one developer can appear in several, and many are in none.
Developer, IPP, EPC contractor or installer?
Developers create projects and often sell them before or after construction. IPPs own operating plants for the long term. EPC contractors are hired to design and build plants for an owner; see our solar EPC companies by country guide. Installers mostly fit home and small business systems. All of them are in the Developers & EPC category.
How solar developers win projects
- Government tenders and auctions. Many countries buy utility solar through competitive tenders run by a state buyer or utility, such as EWEC in Abu Dhabi or Nama PWP in Oman, with the lowest tariff usually winning. Look up the agencies on our country pages.
- Corporate PPAs. Developers sign power purchase agreements directly with large energy users, delivered on site or through the grid where the rules allow it.
- Distributed and C&I portfolios. Some developers own many small rooftop or community plants and sell the power to the building owner or to subscribers.
- Selling projects. Smaller developers often sell ready-to-build projects to larger owners, utilities or funds.
Questions to ask a solar developer
- Which of its projects are operating, which are under construction and which are only planned? Ask for named, finished plants.
- Who will build and maintain the plant: the developer's own team or a hired EPC and O&M contractor?
- For a PPA: how is the price set and adjusted, how long does it run, and what happens if the plant produces less than promised or the site is sold?

How this list was compiled
Each listing is written from the organisation's own website and public materials and reviewed by hand; inclusion is free and never paid for. The list covers listings typed Developers & IPPs and C&I solar developers; EPC contractors and installers that also develop projects are in their own types. Counts on this page are generated from the directory data at every release. Missing one? Submit it for review.
